Puerto Rico Revisited

Rio Mar Beach Scene, Puerto Rico

This painting is inspired by a place on the north coast of Puerto Rico where a river meets the ocean. The river (El Rio Mameyes) meets the sea near Luquillo which is about 44 kilometers from San Juan. It begins in the mountains of El Yunque National Forest where my wife Mercedes and I hiked to the peak of a mountain! There is a lot of rain in these mountains and also spring water that contributes to the flow. We waded in the river near the entrance to the sea and found that it was much cooler water than the sea. We found a few trails on the beach that opened to this view of the ocean.

This is a work in progress and I still need to add the palm trees that frame this scene in the foreground right and left. As is typical, it was a blustery windy day with big wave action and the north east wind was leaning the clouds to the left.
